A new day for Albania

A small county in south estern Europe of less than 3.5 mil people, Albania had a very colorful history. After five hundred years of Ottoman domination, an independent Albania was proclaimed in 1912. The Communists took control of Albania after World War II and persecuted and suppressed religious observance and institutions and entirely banned religion to the point where Albania was officially declared to be the world's first atheist state. Religious freedom has returned to Albania since the regime's change in 1992. In November 2010 Albania granted legal status to over 135 evangelical churches in the country. It's a new day for Albania.
